About Us

The mission of Tŷ Cerdd – Music Centre Wales is to be a "one-stop shop", supporting, developing and promoting the creation, performance and empowering experience of music, both in and of Wales, reaching people in local communities, nationally and internationally, and aspiring to excellence through vision, participation and training.

One of the resident major arts organisations housed in the Wales Millennium Centre, and with a national and international remit, Tŷ Cerdd - Music Centre Wales is a "one-stop shop" for practical, useful, relevant, and accessible information and resources for both amateur and professional music making. It is also a conduit to relevant organisations and resources for music of all genres in Wales.

Tŷ Cerdd has a membership of more than 400 music-performing societies throughout Wales, representing over 22,000 performers, supporting these through grants and artistic advice. It also promotes Welsh music and composers through commissions, performances and recordings, and as one of forty music information centres world-wide.

Tŷ Cerdd founded and manages the National Youth Brass Band, National Youth Choirs, National Youth Jazz, and National Youth Wind Orchestra of Wales and runs the Young Composers project involving over 15,000 children in one year.

The state of the art recording studio, housed within and managed by Tŷ Cerdd, has developed an impressive reputation with a diverse portfolio of cross-genre music production. The Centre is also home to an extensive library of performance and research scores (Welsh music). Additions are made to both libraries on a regular basis and conductors, librarians, and individual performers (including music students) are able to visit the library for research purposes.

Tŷ Cerdd is a member of the International Association of Music Information Centres – a network of music centres which promote and document the music of its country. This network affords Tŷ Cerdd a valuable information exchange and opportunities for collaboration on an international platform.

Tŷ Cerdd – Music Centre Wales receives funding from the Arts Council of Wales, the Welsh Assembly Government and the PRS Foundation.

Tŷ Cerdd – Music Centre Wales is a registered charity, Registration Number 503433.
